Pride is important to us, but its also important to our community, and the people who, live, work, and thrive in it.

Hate has no place in Henderson. People, specifically LGTBQIA+, people have the right to exist in their authentic selves and be celebrated in doing so. The idea of pride, inclusion, and acceptance shouldn’t be something people travel to big cities for.

Pride is about feeling empowered to live authentically, creating spaces of safety and inclusion where we lift each other up. It’s the courage to embrace who we are and the hope that our unity will make us all stronger as a community. Pride to me embodies the true meaning of family.

Pride anywhere, especially in Henderson, Ky is important to me because it means a new life & a happier future. I am a trans woman, just coming out to the world after spending my entire life so far living in fear, shame, and confusion. Pride means confidence and courage. Pride is hope.

Historically, LGBTQIA+ individuals and collectively as a community have been unfairly discriminated against. It is import to stop that cycle and make sure that all people feel welcomed and safe regardless of sexual orientation, gender, or gender identity. Pride helps us do that through celebrating and accepting differences. Ending the cycle of discrimination is simply the right thing to do.
— Austin Vowels, he/him, City Commissioner Henderson kY
Pride, to me, means finding peace - peace to live in my lovely small town, to be a part of my friends and families’ lives without fear.

Henderson Pride means creating a safe space for all. Being born and raised in Henderson, I have seen people leave our community due to feeling there was no place for them here. True southern hospitality in Henderson should include a safe and inclusive space where all are welcome. I am proud to be part of an organization focused on creating a safe and inclusive environment and providing education on those different than you. That is what Henderson Pride represents.
— Rachel Trout, she/her, Outreach & Development Coordinator
